Delicious Arts – Rancho Park/West LA

Desperate for a new bakery in the ‘hood since the departure of Buttercake Bakery, we were delighted when Delicious Arts  opened right before the Christmas break last year. It became a bi-weekly, as in twice a week, if not tri-weekly, stop for us.

The first thing you’ll see when you enter is an array of macarons, as in the French pastel-colored version, as opposed to the shredded coconut kind. I’m not a big macaron fan but will say that the apple pie version is pretty good. My daughter’s friend is addicted to the chocolate ones. They are $2 each. For my money, I’d rather spend a little more and get…

…the chocolate chip cookie. At $2.50, it’s a much bigger bang for your buck. It’s rather sizable, about 4 inches across, and nice and soft in the middle. My daughter’s favorite are the cake pops…

but at $2.75 each for only 3 bites, I’m much happier buying her the cookie.

Delicious Arts recently added a coffee cake muffin. It’s not too sweet and has a a nice swirl though the middle.

They also have croissants – plain, chocolate and whole wheat.

Jack, one of the owners, encouraged me to try the whole wheat croissant. I didn’t regret it! It tasted like a croissant, but I felt less guilty eating it because it was whole wheat so it was healthy, right?

My favorite thing at Delicious Arts is their homemade Oreo. It tastes like an Oreo, but much better!

They also have cute little mini cupcakes…

In fact, they only have mini cupcakes, no regular size ones. They vanish in 2 or 3 bites.

Delicious Arts has expanded their repertoire to include vegan and gluten-free items.  There are gluten-free cookies and even muffins!

There’s also a gluten-free brownie that doesn’t taste gluten-free.

At $4, the gluten-free brownie is quite large and can easily be split into two. My daughter always eats half and then saves the other half for later. It’s one of the best buys here!

I ordered my husband’s birthday cake here. It was very tall and the buttercream was very dense.

If you’re looking for decorated cakes, Delicious Arts offers excellent cake decorating services. Donna, one of the owners, had been decorating cakes prior to opening up the bakery. I saw this cake once in the refrigerated case which was pretty cool:

If you’re in the mood for coffee, Delicious Arts serves Intelligentsia coffee. The service is super-friendly and has nice neighborhood vibe. Jack is usually working the counter and always ready to chat. It’s one of the things that I miss the most since we moved. We will definitely go out of our way to keep returning to Delicious Arts. By the way if you have kids or are shopping for a kid’s present, it also makes the perfect stop for before or after visiting Children’s Book World across the street.
