Bossa Nova – Rancho Park/West L.A.

Prior to eating at Bossa Nova, my knowledge of Brazilian food had been limited to plates of grilled meats with black beans and rice. Therefore when I looked at their extensive menu, I was quite surprised to see pizzas and pastas as well. Bossa Nova is one of the few non-Asian restaurants in the neighborhood offering a lunch special menu – encompassing everything from salads and sandwiches to pizzas and pasta to grilled meats and fish.

Sandwiches, priced between $10-$11, come with your choice of side. My husband chose the  Tuna Roll sandwich, their take on a tuna melt. The tuna salad came wrapped in a tortilla, with Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce and tomatoes and a mountain of fries.

Throwing caution to the winds, I ordered the Linguica No Pao sandwich with plantains. I liked to pretend that the plantains were a healthier choice than the fries (although after one bite, I could tell that I was only fooling myself).

My sausage sandwich had not one, not two, but three sausages, Monterey Jack, lettuce, mayo and a tiny bit of salsa, grilled on their fantastic bread. It was definitely my kind of sandwich.

Portions here are very generous. Even with my big appetite, I could only manage to eat half of my sandwich (although I did eat all of the plantains). The other half came home with me as a next day snack (and reheated quite nicely). With big portions and decent prices, Bossa Nova manage to samba its way into my heart (and stomach).
